ZOOM in May

May 1st, 2011

May is the month where the pace starts to quicken.  We’ve shaken off the cold, cold shackles of Winter and blown through allergy season just in time to realize that Summer is nearly upon us and that a third of the year is already gone!  What happened?

So with that in mind (and really, because we haven’t used the theme yet), it’s time to make a game around the theme: ZOOM.  This could pertain to speed, increasing or decreasing the scale of things, or anything else your clever minds can conjure up – just make sure you don’t let time zoom past you into June!

…a game with a purple elephant that you can zoom in and find out that it’s made of thousands tiny purple elephants that you can zoom in too, only to find that are made of thousands of tinier purple elephants, that (incredible to say) you can zoom in and find out that are made of thousands tiny steven-seagal…

Oh wow… I think this theme has a ton of potential for some seriously experimental ideas! I’m excited to see what everybody comes up with.

Now this is an interesting theme. Let’s see if I can come up with something.

I find this intriguing. If I weren’t already wrapped up in another huge project for the summer, I’d be all over this. I like fast things!

    ZOOM! I AM THE FASTEST!

Haha okay so it’s not a record or anything. But the theme inspired me to get it done fast. :)

    My game is titled QuickPoint.

I’m new to this and I’d really like to enter with a friend. Is that possible?
Got a few gameplay concepts we’ve been brainstorming. Should be fun!

I’m teaming up with Nikhil for this one, let’s make some games!

  11. JDos

at least… I will be teaming up if it is possible, can we?

    @ JDOS & NIKHIL

Sure, you guys can team up. The most important EGP rule is to finish in 7 days or less (just so you don’t waste too much time on an idea if it turns out to be bad) – but the rules are really more like guidelines. :)

I just might have to join in to this one. It’s been far too long since my last experimental madness.

I haven’t been able to participate in a while because of work obligations, but I’ve got a great idea for this month. Should be fun!

    I like this theme :)

If I finish the prototype, where I must send it?

I like the fact that the player is being “chased” indirectly.

I like the mechanic of switching cars.
It’s frustrating that you can’t switch to a car from the queue at the bottom.

I really wanna make something, but I just can’t think of anything to do with zooming :(

Well now is the time to pitch my game made for the “10 seconds” theme a while back (I finished the game too late for the competition, shame on me).

    http://alexisandre.com/2010/09/30/secondario-mushroom-overdose

I have a couple of other ideas for this theme, I’ll definitely make another game this month!

    Hey there!

So this is my first time, not just with EGP but making games in general. It’s my first game so be gentle. It’s a platformer (so not super experimental, but to me it is) where you have to Zoom to get past certain parts. It’s called

    Watch Out Danger Ahead (W.O.D.A.)

    http://popbottom.com/2011/05/experimental-gameplay-project-w-o-d-a/

I made it with GameSalad, so you need a Mac to play, but if you have one please check it out and let me know what you think!!

    Hello everyone,

I’ve made a simple game where the goal is to reach the exit while avoiding hazards. It’s made in HTML5/Javascript and is open source.

This contest really worked my creative side. I’m glad I participated!

I technically finished in 8 days, so boo to me :(

    http://jrjellybeans.net/html5Games/zoomPlanePilot.php

(It should be bug free. Let me know if something is wrong though!)

@Robert : the link doesn’t work (and neither your site).

    Hi all!

This is my first time for EGP (I have entered Ludum Dare 3 times before so I’m not a total newbie). I only saw this theme yesterday after looking for other competitions after LD20 – I have a good idea for zooming and there are 6 days left until June, so I’ll try to see if I can find the time to implement it… hope to post something here soon!

My idea is going at it from the scale angle in a slightly lateral thinking kind of way ;-)…

    Hi!

Here is my little prototype. I really don’t know how many time I have work on this (may be 4 o 5) but I pretty sure are less of seven days.

Name: Broken Zoomometer (I know, the name sucks)
    Link: http://db.tt/nLiOuoY
    controls:
    ESC: quit
    Mouse

    Greetings!

    Here’s a Zoom-themed game that I made:

    http://www.stevegargolinski.com/chance-of-a-lifetime/

You can play it right in your browser.

I’m not sure if it qualifies for the ‘competition’, since I used some stock visual assets. I’ll leave that up to the judges or whatever, I had a lot of fun making it =) I made it in about 3 evenings worth of work.

    Hi all,

My game for this month got a little dreailed due to illness and i didn’t get much chance to work on it for more than 3 days but I decided to release what I have as a 1 level demo of a game I will be coninuing

You take on the role of a motorcycle soldier equipped with a special Zycle or Zoom Cycle that enables you to propel your self across gaps and through the air at will. Using this and an on board laser you need to infiltrate the lair of the infamous Big Boss.

    http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/arcade/zycle-demo-1/5346/

Hope you Enjoy and Congrats to all who took part.
