November and December 2012 is… TEMPERATURE

We’ve had fire and snow on the brain for quite some time now, but we’re starting to see a flickering light and the end of a cold, dark tunnel.
Little Inferno releases in less than a few weeks, so for the months of November and December we thought we’d see what other game developers do with TEMPERATURE.

Did we ever a get a clarification on whether or not the 2 month EGPs grant two weeks of dev time? I’m pretty sure it gets asked every time there’s a 2 month EGP.
I know the spirit of the EGP is really just to toy around with ideas, you know … experiment. But the time restriction, I think, helps a lot with generating creative juices.
In the mean time, I’m going to be assuming that 7 days is still the recommended amount, and will also continue to not feel bad about taking another day or two to work out a bug. I just wanted to point out that lots of people would really like a clarification.

it’s always going to be 7 days, and I’m sure no one cares if you spend a day or two extra if you have to.
the two months is there to give you plenty of time to fit those 7 days in your calendar.

Hi everybody,
talking about the seven day limit :
For me, a day of work has 8 hours, so when I work 4 hours on sunday and 4 hours on monday, I only worked 1 day … or would that make 2 days ?!?
Which view is valid ? Please help, I’m desperate … :)

it’s just a friendly competition. 7 days is 168 hours, spend it and stretch it however you see fit.

My game for November/December is “Too Hot Too Cold” which can be played here:

It’s a platformer featuring 17 levels, a NewGame+ mode, and Twitter integration. I worked on this game from November 19th-November 25th. It took me about 24 hours of actual work time over that time period.
You may need to click inside the Flash window in order for the game to register keyboard presses.

Quick and dirty prototype whilst I couldn’t sleep last night. My original idea was to have a protagonist which would walk about and could only put out fires that weren’t too hot, but it didn’t really work. Instead, I’ve ended up with a more forgiving, but less logical version of Minesweeper.
Each tile is given a colour from blue, to green, to yellow, to red (like infrared vision) which changes with the number of fires either on that tile or in the 8 squares surrounding it. Win by clearing all the fires by clicking on them. If you fail to click on a tile which is alight, fire will spread; once too much of the board’s on fire, you lose.

It is a 2D platformer where the player has to collect items. The player has the power to switch between summer and winter, and both seasons have their advantages and disadvantages.
Keyboard only. Arrow keys, ‘space’ and ‘x’.
I will probably tweak/polish it a little the next few days and weeks.

Went a little far from the theme but here is the description:
Global warming caused your home to melt. Sadly you’re the only penguin that can’t swim. Stay alive as long as possible by running away from the melting ice.
I’m 17 and have little experience with making games so it is quite flawed :P
I made it with unity so you need a plugin to play it.

A bit busy with thanksgiving, finals, and Christmas. If we don’t have time to add instructions before its due, you move right and left to catch fireballs and snowballs to adjust the temperature in your house. You want to keep it at the correct temperature (current and correct temperatures both displayed on the thermostat).

Starting in the last minute was not a good idea… Unfortunately, I could only find three days to work on, and the game is not nearly complete. However, I made enough to display the concept, and it can be seen here:

The game – Defenders of the Core:
The game is a turn-based tactics game, where you control a team of firefighters trying to defend the core from overheating while fire is raging around it. You must assemble a team of firefighters of various types, each with their own attributes and abilities, and use them to control the fire and defend the core for long enough until the fire stops or reinforcement arrives.
