ECONOMY Roundup
March 31st, 2012

Phew! This month looked to be extremely busy for most people and had a smaller showing than usual. Perhaps most people were doing taxes.
We had 4 games for this month:

Wheeler Dealer, by David Rzepa
Extremely addictive truck delivery game about making a selling various goods. Traveling and time burn fuel. Looking forward to updates on this one!

An interesting memorization game with gambling elements. Requires XNA.

Flying Stock Exchange, by Jonathan Giroux
A cute gliding game. Collect cash to keep your paper airplane afloat.

A trading economy game. Buy flour and bake bread to unlock the town’s various stores and keep the economy going.
Congratulations to everyone who made a game this month. As per my other post, if you have an iOS device then I have a gift code for you for our latest game, Word Mess. Send an email to our contact address and we’ll hook you up!

We're a group of indie game developers, running a friendly competition every month. The rules: Make a game based on the month's theme, and don't spend more than 7 days. New games posted at the end of every month.

David: Wheeler Dealer is fantastic! Supremely polished for a week’s work, and very addictive.
Jonathan: Beautiful game. I love the imagery… and for all I know, it’s a pretty close metaphor for what really goes on behind all the steel and glass.
KIMO: Interesting game; surprisingly challenging. You might shatter some poor children’s dreams if it gets out that the tooth fairy isn’t purely altruistic, though.

Thanks Tim, I though your game explained perfectly the fallacy.
Other games, pretty much what Tim said :D.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments, really appreciate it. I Finally got a chance to boot into Windows and try your games :)
@KIMO The easy level was a nice challenge for me, but the hard lvel was just way too much for me to keep track of. I wonder what other little mechanics you could add to raise the difficulty without making it overwhelming. Losing multiple teeth? Gold teeth are worth more?
@Jonathan – Lol, a nice metaphor! Though I felt like the speed was a bit too fast or the controls not sensitive enough. Perhaps if it started a little slower and then the speed increased over time or according to how well you were doing the player would be at a difficulty level that suited them for a longer time.
@Tim – Great game. I really felt like there was an economy at work and that each business depended on the others even if not directly. I particularly liked that smashing the window at first appeared to be a waste of money but it has to be done to keep the glazier in business. I really feel like I learned something about the fragility and counter-intuitiveness of economies.
@Everyone – None of your games gave me a good measure of how good I was at the game so there was not much reason to replay them. It can be as simple as saying ‘to win you must beat X points’ as then the player has a goal to try and achieve.
Well I hope my comments help and I hope to see you for this months jam.
Thanks EGP!

Hi all,
I managed to get my entry onto the App Store. It’s iPad only but it’s totally free to download.

Tim, really dug “the baker” having the glacier in there was very intresting, as it displayed how some parts of economics don’t make sense on the micro level, but they do on the macro level. I enjoyed playing it.
