5 Buttons Finalists!

February 7th, 2012

First the good news: there was a metric ton of great games made for the 5 Buttons Competition.  So much so that we had a really tough time deciding which games would make it to the Stattbad Gallery.

Second, the better news: our friends at 02L >  Outside Standing Level  have confirmed that they will be showing 13 of your games, with the possibility of showing an additional 10 games!

Twenty-three games is an enormous show. We’ve never had such a large number chosen for any competition, so congratulations to everyone involved!

Who determines the winner?

On Friday, February 17th your game will be shown at the Stattbad Gallery as part of a live public show. All finalists (and runner-ups if they make some changes) will have their games played by attendees, who will vote on their favorites.  In addition to the general public, we’ll have a small panel of judges who will help determine the winner.

The very practical prizes:

First Place: 1200€

Second Place: 600€

Third Place: 200€

If you’re in Berlin (or Germany in general) I highly suggest you go – it looks like it’ll be a hell of a show!

    Quick question:

    1) As a runner up, do we send an email to x AT 02l.net as well regarding what we need to change?

Thanks! And grats to everyone; all of these entries are great!

    @ KURT
Finalists and runner-ups should email their information. If you’re a runner-up they’ll respond with what you need to change.

    Good luck!

Well, I know this is ridiculously late, but when I missed the deadline for this comp, I rebuilt my game so it’d be playable in browser. (sigh)If only this were last Tuesday!

Anyway, Check it out, and congrats to all the finalists/real entries! I’ll be there next time!

    Hey guys!
I’m still waiting for a contact from the creators of the following games:

    - Pool Push
    - Whack’a'Mole
    - Kickz
    - Square Loves Triangle, Versus Vs

If I don’t receive it within Monday, I will be setting game name and author to the best of my knowledge plus an empty description.

Just to fill you in, we have (over the 23 total):

    - 11 games ready to be shown
    - 5 missing info (but then ready or ready anyway)
    - 7 waiting for a fix

    bye!

No epic space adventures for coordinated team of 5 people there :(
I was so looking forward to know how well people managed to play the game.

Me too: I thought Äconomy would fit perfectly the setup, since it can be played with 1 to 5 players cooperatively without getting easier or harder…

But never mind, congratulation to all finalists!

If some of you guys are in Berlin these days, I recommend to spend 2 or 3 hours to go to the Museum of Computer Games. I recently was there and it was great:

Had lots of fun at the event, all games that had been selected were great and both players and audience really enjoyed them. My top 3 would be Rakete, Revolution, Tone Tennis. Best moment was when a group managed to complete Revolution and everybody cheered and shouted and clapped and cried and hugged.

    Here’s a couple of gifs I took:

    it was amazing.
I didn’t expect so much focus, curiosity, empathy and coordination.
There was a magical, unique atmosphere.
Special thanks to the finalists, they delivered incredibly high level products for the constrained time they got. Additional thanks to the runners, who strove to get into the contest with teeth and nails.
And thanks also to those that didn’t make it to the contest. It was really hard to choose who could and who couldn’t.

We’re currently gathering all the votes (blue ribbon juries, Stattmedia/Stattbad crew) and already processed the votes from the public: the winners will be announced on Wednesday 22nd on EGP, 02l.net and facebook. I hope you’ll be patient.

Media too will be processed along next week. We have three main sources and hopefully cool materials.

    Stay tuned!
