UPGRADE in November 2011
November 1st, 2011

This month’s theme is UPGRADE. Frankly, we’re shocked we haven’t done this theme before, but after minutes of extensive research combing through EGP backlogs we determined that we some how missed this theme.
So there you have it. UPGRADE away, game developers.

We're a group of indie game developers, running a friendly competition every month. The rules: Make a game based on the month's theme, and don't spend more than 7 days. New games posted at the end of every month.

TOUGH! i’ve played at least one flash game where you can upgrade everything (include the graphics, and sound and the menus). Not sure what to do yet

This is my first time here.I’m pretty new in making games and hopefully I can finish a game within the week.

@Tenseiga: Yes, I can remember such a game as well. The title was something like “upgrade complete” and it was a parody to the heavy use of achievements within some games. Therefore in that game, everything was an achievement/upgrade.
Anyhow, interesting theme. Let’s see what I can think of :)

@Erik,
Actually that is achievement unlocked (which is also really good). I was referring to upgrade complete:

Its not much but here’s my very first entry to the Experimental Gameplay Project. It’s called Elenin and in the game you are a comet making its way towards Earth, and you must gather particles to ‘upgrade’ and grow bigger.

Won’t have time to make something new this month. I am in the process of “upgrading” several of my older games to Android/iOS, though. Here’s a game I created in 2009 with a downloadable Android apk: http://aaronoldenburg.net/e_baptize.html
Unfortunately, Unity’s terrain system still seems like it’s asking too much of most of mobile processors (and the fact that I’m using multiple cameras probably doesn’t help). It starts out fine on an HTC Evo Shift, and then progressively gets slower as the game continues. Doesn’t work at all on a Samsung Galaxy Tab. I’m curious if anyone has anything faster and finds that it runs smoothly.

Two ideas:
1. The player can draw their own upgrades which affect gameplay
2. Sometimes upgrades can cause other components to fail

Reused some parts, made in about 8 hours. http://members.home.nl/peter.josee/egp/upgrade/
It appears to be running correctly on Firefox, Chrome, Opera, IE, and iphone but does not work at all on the links, lynx, Dillo or Midori browsers. It is minimalistic, but ok for me. See the t.gz for details (http://members.home.nl/peter.josee/egp/)
