DISINTEGRATE in July

July 1st, 2011

While last month’s theme was about combining multiple elements in new and delightful ways.  This month’s is about reducing said elements to nothing!

Your challenge for July 2011, developers, is to make a game around the theme: DISINTEGRATE.

This is my entry for disintegration. This is something i put together in just one day, hope you like it. You will need html5 compliant browser.

    http://balaji.me/vkrishna/closer/

Controls: Mouse only (or touch screen)
GamePlay: Stay close to the enemies without touching them to disintegrate them. If the enemies touch your ship then your ship dinsintegrates.
Audio: Loops and sfx from flashkit.com

    @Vamsi,
I’m enjoying your game–oddly, the mechanic kind of reminds me of “The Marriage”. Which makes me wonder, does the theme of spaceships really make sense in light of what the player is doing? The you-have-to-get-close-but-not-too-close mechanic seems like it could lead to more interesting storylines/metaphors.

@aaron glad you like my game.. I’ve been making some changes. Do check it out. And yes now that you mention it.. “The Marriage” does seems a very appropriate metaphor :D. This idea actually started from “keep your friends close enemies closer” its’ not exactly the same.. but thats’ where i got the inspiration from :)

This EGP starts well! Closer and You are part of me now are two great games. So close, and so differents though.

    A french review about them : http://oujevipo.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=443:closerpart-of-me-now&catid=36:10-minutes&Itemid=55

Great entries so far. I really enjoyed You Are Part of Me Now!

I’m currently working on a game called Agent Atomic Actionfist. It’s an interesting concept and I hope to complete it for the competition!

    My entry is called Plastique

    http://lukeoc.co.uk/plastique.html

A simple physics puzzler that has you destroy structures in order to reach your goal.

I hope you enjoy. I have enjoyed Closer and Your Are a Part of Me Now (pretty sinister title!). Both looked good and played well.

Here is an experimental game for this theme. Check this out if you don’t mind some reading and some interaction you don’t typically expect out of a game! Hopefully people “get” it. There’s a link on the bottom of this page for a more in depth explanation.

    http://vazor222.com/integamerated/Integamerated.html

I think it is pretty unique and interesting. It’s basically a game that breaks itself down as you play it. I wonder what other games out there are like this? I can’t remember…

    Anyway, enjoy!

    @vamsi:: liked ur game…..very innovative…..n1…:)))

Against my better judgement, I’m writing a tongue-in-cheek roguelike. A big dungeon full of rubbish weapons that keep falling to pieces, so the player has to hoard hundreds of axes and swords and stuff.

Not sure how it’ll turn out, ask me again in seven days! :D

    July 10th, 2011

  15. Darius

    @Vazor
Ha! That was awesome. It felt almost like the game was patronizing me, as it got simpler and simpler the more I failed. Very enjoyable.

    July 10th, 2011

  16. Man of Doom

As usual I’m starting a project for this. It’s a puzzle platformer where you have to destroy scenery to get an object to the goal.
Also Luke O Connor, that’s an awesome puzzle game you’ve got there, really neat mechanics.

  17. Arnaud DE BOCK

I got the name for the Game : Ponnuki,
Hope to have the game ready in 7 day.
The concept is simple, explose the tiles to go move the player,
and go to the top of the stage to change levels.

Made the game Critical for this!

    http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/strategy-sim/critical/5621/

Every structure is connected to each other, and if the center is destroyed, every ally disignegrates.

    Hi,
This is my game for disintegration: “Capture the fireflies”
It took around 6 days to create at this point.

    How to play:
Press the mouse left button to capture the fireflies and
release them on the green point light to disintegrate them.

    Game: “Capture the fireflies”

    Hi,
Here is my experimental game for “Disintegrate”.
Use the arrows to fly the spaceship and the space bar to shoot and disintegrate the meteors.

    Game: “Planet Defense”

    Enjoy!

Theme was “Disintegrate”. So I disintegrated everything game makes game, starting with animations, ending with interactivity.

All that left is one epic adventure in lands of Middle Earth.

What I tried to do is to face competitive waters of games-based-on-single-line-in-movie-or-book genre. I hope I succeeded :D

Well, here is my first prototype. It’s a version of the classic SameGame, but with realistic gravity:

    http://lojueguito.weebly.com/gravegame.html

Yes, I made it because it was easy :)
I will think of something more original for my second entry, if I have time.

The concept was to use the desintagration of teh tile to make move the Actor. Hopr you ll enjoy it!

Left click to destroy the tiles.
    Use the deflagration to move.
    Goal : Toucjh the sky!!!

    Hey fine people of EGP!

    Check out our entry “znMacedonia”:
    http://www.kongregate.com/games/zinkinteractive/znmacedonia

Idea + Graphics + Code in just under 3 hours.
    <3 Flixel.

It atleast loosely conforms to the theme through the disintegration beam mechanic. ;)

simple chase and evade game, use arrows to move

collect diamonds by hovering on them for a few seconds, but they evade.
evade the asterisk circles, but they gravitate towards you.

    http://game.percevic.com/terra/terra.swf

    + points for diamonds
    - points for asterisks

  30. Alejandro Echeverría

Hey everyone, my entry is called Suboids:

    http://www.aaecheve.com/boids/boids.html

You have to guide your boids to the green circles (using your cursor for steering). When there is more than one goal you have to “disintegrate” your boids in smaller boids (pressing space).

The game requires an HTML5 capable browser.

    July 26th, 2011

  31. Spunkmeyer

@Bojan P: Your game seems to be to hard. I dont get any points. I am way to fast to hover above the diamonds. The asterisks will always push me away. Beside that, I really like the graphics :-)

    July 27th, 2011

  32. Darius

    Tetratower
It started out following the theme a little better, with a character climbing a tower as it disintegrated below them, but I think it’s funner this way.

    http://gamejolt.com/online/games/puzzle/tetratower/5761/

It’s a kind of a combination of tetris and a simple RPG.

    July 27th, 2011

    Energize

Started out wanting to do it with rectangles, but that involved too much code for collision checking, checking if things were still part of one block, etc. So I changed to blobs (circles) instead. Fairly happy with that decision.

Break blobs into smaller blobs in order to maximize the produced energy. Plot details provided as a letter from your boss included in the game files.

    http://gamejolt.com/open-source/games/arcade/energize/5769/

The config will allow you to turn off sound and adjust other game settings if you don’t like the defaults. Hope you like it, it’s the first time I got around to completing one of these. Almost got in done in a day, but went into a second evening removing clicks from the sound and play testing for bugs (found quite a few so hopefully you guys won’t run into many).

    Hello everyone!

I just finished my entry “Agent Atomic Actionfists!”

It was not completely finished due to time constraints and only about 1/3 of what I planned was completed.

It’s still an action-packed, adrenaline-pumping, thrill ride of a game. The game at it’s current state took a week of development time from art to bug-fixing.

Please Download, you won’t regret it: http://www.mediafire.com/?50ne758iko6d6w5

Story: You play as Atomic who is a hard-as-nails, nuclear-powered agent who wakes up to an empty plane swarming with Leadheads. You have to fist-fight your way passed them and use your particle power to boost by obstacles. Sky-diving, under-water exploration, and freight ship destruction awaits you in this short but satisfying demo of AAA!

i finally made it! wanted to work on this some more but i ran out of time. this is a weird procedural generated exploration game where you have to DISITINTIGRATE through the world to get places, and you have a grapple gun! so that’s fun!
