Sunshine

January 4th, 2010

by Kyle Gabler

Coming in just a little late for Art Game, but still a fun game nonetheless, Mr. Gabler’s “Sunshine” is fun game to take for a loop. Give it a try.

From the Artist

Oh no! It’s raining, and people are falling out of the sky, but that’s not going to ruin your day.  You are a little plant, determined to make your own sunshine.  As you grow, make loops around falling people to sprout them into Flowers.  Flowers give you more energy, so you can grow taller. Watch out for falling rocks.

Pretty good game. Reminds me a lot of Phyta. The looping system doesn’t seem to always work… but it’s still pretty neat and very nice looking!

Hey no kidding, especially the silhouette bean stalk. Much more art game than my crappy arcade prototype!

My biggest complaint is that the looping is finicky… it doesn’t work a lot of the time when is seems it should. That paired with the rapidly draining energy makes the game shorter than I’d like.. a shame because the visuals and audio are great!

Works gread on Windows 7 over here.

Concerning the looping, I agree that it does not always work as one might expect…

Well I don’t know about art, but that was very addictive. The plant doesn’t always grow as fast as I’d like, that took some adjusting, but the looping works fine as long as you don’t make the loops too big. It is ofcourse a simple prototype, but I enjoyed it alot. I would definitely welcome an expanded version with more obstacles and perhaps some goals. Current record is 1537 meters.

well, it’s a really nice game. though I can’t tell when I’m about to pop a flower. I accidentally popped one and couldn’t get another one since. graphically, it’s extremely awesome:) the gameplay is pretty awesome too. Nice to see your work again:) Is Ron doing something too?:)

Love the game Kyle. Very good. A great art game. I like how you can protect yourself from the rocks with bubbles, but the bubbles consequently trap people too.
