Best of the Net: 100 Things
January 31st, 2010

2010 is off to a good start, with you lot making 14 games for this theme, each varying wildly from the next.
Check them out!

Denatured, by Toodice
You control 1 of 49 motes. Avoid getting too many electrons, while firing them at your opponents. Once you or an enemy collects 4 motes it’s game over!
99 Bottles of Beer, by Marcos
A sobering look at designated driving (yeah I went there!). Avoid heat seeking bottles of beer. Get hit at they swarm on you, beating you into merciful, blissful unconsciousness.
An atmospheric herding game. Fire small repulsing shots at floating cubes to get them into THE FIELD.
The Chronicles of Bim: The 100 Fake Afros, by Treeman
I knew a Bim once. I don’t think she went a shooting spree against 100′s of afros though. Seriously, this game is HARD.
The title is accurate, but if you love achievements you’ll enjoy this one.
100 Things, by Marc-Andre Weibezahn
Search and eliminate tiles by category, looking for the largest clump of similarly colored adjacent tiles.
50 Rocks, 50 Guns, by Mathew Elvey Price
A more modern take on Asteroids, using a crap ton of weapons.
Collect water droplets (I think that’s what those squiggly lines are) to grow the size of your bubble, then absorb others.
Mr. McDougal’s Marvelous Upside-Down Electrotree, by Ben Wilhelm
Not only holding the distinction of being the most ridiculous game title here (though Bim was close), this is an interesting rotating puzzle game.
Juggler’s Duel, by Tobias Wehrum
A charming rhythm matching game with a little bit of a learning curve. Could also help you finally get over your fear of clowns.
Judge the souls of the dead in this biblical nudging game. The indirect control is definitely worth checking out, as it adds up to some interesting moments.
Looks like fun, but I can’t seem to find the game’s executable in the .zip file. Anyone have any luck?
Switch control between multiple enemies, using their powers to kill each other.
Beulah and the Hundred Birds, by Jake Elliot
A serene exploration game about collecting a flock of 100 birds. Jake has also made the source code available if anyone is interested. RPS Link!

3 More entries, just under the wire:
Try to stay focused in this meditation based game. I wasn’t able to make it to 100 items, but it is fun to get distracted – a tad risque as well.
I read once that people have a hard time maintaining more than 150 relationships. Let’s see if you can maintain 100!
Dodge swarming enemies to random streaming music.

cool games! I wish I had some time to finish my entry this month…:(

Some really cool stuff here! Definitely going to join in this month ;)
I haven’t tried them all yet, but so far I really really like Juggler’s Duel. It’s quite simple but trying to type in the commands as early as possible made for a fun dynamic, and I love the way it tries to mess you up with those blue keys!
I also had a lot of fun with 100 things, and Beulah was pretty nice too. I love seeing all the birds following me around and there’s a really lovely atmosphere to it. But maybe the underground sections could be a little shorter, as they weren’t as fun.

Emilio’s Flight
Stay alive in a swarm of music synced enemies for as long as you can.

Better a little late than never ;-)

Hey, there’s still a few hours left before February, where I am. Any chance I can sneak one more game in?

Based on that screenshot it looks like someone had a graphics bug with my game (50 rocks, 50 gun)… the planet is meant to look like earth >.< I'm going to guess it's because of an unusually sized/shaped texture or something.

Monkey Madness can be played: MonkeyMadness/Release/MMGame.exe
I really enjoyed playing it and then, unfortunately, upon exiting it made my screen go black.
Juggler’s Duel is awesome, both fun and playful and is not just DDR-like, it is the game that all DDR-like games shall be judged against from now on! I can juggle a little myself and the game even almost felt like juggling.
Also enjoyed 99 Bottles of Beer, 100 Things, and Envy. Some of the others I couldn’t get to work.

I live in Hawaii so I’m just under the wire too. I don’t have a fancy website to host it on though.

Thanks and congratulations to all!

@ Matthew – the strange thing is I downloaded everything your page suggested. Maybe my computer is just flaky?
@ Marcos – thanks for the heads up, this should be fixed now.

Kyle: It’s probably the fact that I didn’t really get time to test compatibility. If your computer has an old graphics card that could cause it because of my rushed graphics, or maybe a problem with the texture file being corrupted (unlikely but possible).
If I spent more time on polishing the game, it would have multiple levels of detail allowing older systems to work better. Anyway, apparently it ran fine, I’ll just try fixing it for my next games or something.

Always a possibility, Mr. Price. My laptop recently celebrated it’s 1st birthday, so it ain’t the newest.
I’m sure it ran better on others’ machines!

Looks like I missed the deadline due to my shoddy link. Oh well. Here’s something that works in case anyone’s interested.

@Alistair Aitcheson:
Thank you for the praise! :-D
And by the way, if you like the blue keys, try “Hard” and enjoy the red ones… they spice it up even more!
@John Reeser:
Woah, you are making me blush. It’s great to hear you liked the game, and especially that it actually reminds you of juggling :-)

I wish I could have played all the games =[ but as a mac user I was limited to only a few.

I did in fact start something for this but never was able to finish it. Anyway here is the link to my incomplete game- the idea was pretty cool but didn’t have enough time to get it completed (due to Global Game Jam, among other things). :)

This is the proper blog for anybody who needs to search out out about this topic. You understand a lot its virtually laborious to argue with you (not that I really would need…HaHa). You positively put a brand new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply nice!
