And the winner is…

January 12th, 2010

The results from the Art Theme competition are back, and while it was a grueling, grueling judging time, congratulations are in order for one Mr. Alexitron for his lifetime platformer entry And Everything Started to Fall.

The folks at the FACT museum also wanted to recognize two runner-ups:

1. Every Day the Same Dream, by Molleindustria- yet another seminal work by mastermind Paolo Pedercini, and a tribute to the white collared wage-slave.

2. We the Giants, by Peter Groeneweg – the collaborative MSOG has generated a lot of buzz, and it’s great fun to build on the shoulders of those that came before you.

If anyone is in the Liverpool, England area between now and Sunday, Feb. 21 they can catch the winning game at the FACT museum’s Space Invaders exhibit.

Thanks again to everyone who entered an Art Game, there were some really fantastic games made this round and we look forward to seeing what everyone makes for “100 Things.”

Definetly the most outstanding games of the competition. I miss “Infinity” though, but I guess its artwork is a little to dark for an exhibition.

I am shocked to a ridiculous extent ! Thank you so very much . How much is a ticket to England ? Man , I would love to see this with my own eyes in real time but , Oh well , I guess I’m gonna have to settle with pictures . I’m sorry if I sound like an exited little child , this is just so awesome to me .
Oh , and congratulations to the runner ups , I played Every Day the Same Dream and enjoyed it very much . I try to stray from the monotony of every day routine as often as I can .

I prefered We the giants, but congratulation Alexitron, you’re game is very good.
I wrote a small review on this competition if you are interested (and if you understand french) : http://oujevipo.over-blog.fr/article-and-everything-started-to-fall-a-la-fact-galery-42880554.html

I love the things all of you are doing here, keep going.

Thanks guys . This has boosted my motivation a lot and I really needed that since I am trying to learn another game making platform ( FlashPunk ) . I played We the Giants and it is awesome . To bad that , judging from the Twitter messages , most people don’t get it and only left idiotic messages behind. But I guess that’s just how the internet is , Oh well .

Congratulation :) Very good game indeed, I loved the part with the money, a symbol of something that can ‘drown’ you, and yet you need it to ‘go across’. Pixel Art!

Pierrec: The nature of We The Giants (i.e. only play once) means it couldn’t work in its current state in a gallery setting. I imagine that impacted the decision a little, but I could be wrong.

Alexitrón: Congrats! I somehow managed to not play your game, but I’m downloading it now… on dialup. D: I have high hopes and I’m sure I won’t be let down.

From my site you can get it on small 3mb chunks . Low quality music tough .

Both games are brilliant. My personal winner is WeTheGiants, simply because Every Day the Same Dream scared the crap outta me. I mean…

Congrats on your accidental win Alexitron, definitely a nice game. Could be more experimental, but as it is, it is an “easy to swallow” art game, which I suppose makes it a good choice for Art Game. (Referring to the concept, not the difficulty.)
