Unexperimental Shooter RoundUp

July 13th, 2009

Unexperimental Shooter Roundup

For the month of July, we were supposed to make games on the theme “Unexperimental Shooter”. Here’s what we came up with:

Proto Shooter, Allan Blomquist

Egg Worm Generator, Kyle Gabler

Frobot, Kyle Gray

Post IT Shooter, Petri Purho

Bunny Blaster, Shalin Shodhan

To anyone else participating over the vast, vast internets – please be sure to send us the links to your games or post them in the comments section and we’ll do a “best of the net” feature – can’t wait to see what you lot come up with!

I sent in a link via email to the contact email address. But I will post it here too.

    Slimes : http://shiware.com/?q=node/3
Try to destroy the slimes for points, but beware, bullets bounce off walls and will lower your score if you get hit. Internet based high score table included.

I did a little round up of the games (all except IT Shooter, that came out too late :p ) on The Reticule.

You have done some great work so far guys, looking forward to what you create in the next month :)

Balls bouncing off walls is definitely not experimental; but it can be rather soothing:

Simple concept I threw together. Enjoy!

I did a little something today, but I have been thinking about the game since a couple days now. Pretty happy by the result. In a couple of words, its a vertical shooter like normal, but to get updates, you will have to shoot at the right tempo. Be the faster to reach 1000 points. I did 263 sec.

Probably going to make a version for the XBOX360 on the community.

J Tremblay, Enjoy and listen tight !!!

I wish I had heard about this before now. I guess my game http://socratic.manateegames.co.uk could count.

When do we find out the next topic?

We should be announcing the next theme around August 1st – the format for this last one was a little wonky, but we’re hoping to get into something a little more regular. :)

    Kosmosis: a communist space shooter

It’s a classic Space Invaders meets Katamary meets Lenin kind of thing.
Read the notes for all the info and the brainy pretentious details.

I dissagree. A game doesn’t need hi quality to be good. A great example would be cave story. It can be a couple hours to a couple days. Depends on your skillz and how you play. Of course, Tron 2.0 is awesome and has high quality and lots of game time. Also has a great backstory, same as Cave Story.
Oh well, looking forward to your next game!
